Special Event

Decolonizing development journals: Perspectives from International Journal of the Commons

Organizers: Sergio Villamayor Tomas1 and Ruth Meinzen-Dick2

1ICTA, Autonomous University of Barcelona, Spain, 2International Food Policy Research Institute, USA

International Journal of the Commons has had a commitment to equity in access and publications since its founding, but we continue to work to make this a reality.  This session will present some of these commitments and get input from participants on how to take this forward in decolonizing the literature. The session will first cover some of the motivations to create the journal, including its pioneering commitment to open access, accessibility to scholars from the Global South, and equitable readership. Then the session will focus on what IJC looks for in contributions to the journal and reviews. Finally, we will open the floor for questions, particularly from early career scholars who are interested in submitting their works or become reviewers.
