How to get your paper on the commons published: A training session with the journal Mountain Research and Development

Abstract:
Publishing articles in peer-reviewed journals is a must for researchers promoting “the commons we want,” as this remains the prime means of communicating exciting new results to the scientific community and beyond. However, going successfully through the peer-review process is often challenging. It requires not only knowledge of the basic rules of writing scientific articles, but also an understanding of the review process and criteria.
Based on their editorial experience with the inter- and transdisciplinary journal Mountain Research and Development (MRD), the session hosts will offer useful tips and recommendations on dos and don’ts when preparing a submission to a scientific journal and when responding to reviewers. Moreover, they will provide insights into MRD’s three peer-reviewed sections that present the different types of knowledge needed to design alternative development pathways, namely systems, transformation, and target knowledge. With these three journal sections, MRD seeks to reach out beyond the scientific community and address the knowledge needs of policymakers and development practitioners as well.
The session is open to anyone interested in gaining insights into a journal editor’s perspective or in improving their scientific writing skills. Prospective authors planning on submitting their work to MRD and junior researchers are particularly welcome. There will be time for discussion, as well as for questions and answers.
